Joyce Bawa Mogtari, special aide to President-elect John Dramani Mahama, has accused Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP flagbearer, of dishonesty and attempting to belittle or ridicule the NDC’s manifesto.
Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the just-ended election, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has told party faithful that it was their party that gave away the election to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Addressing party officers and supporters who had called on him from the Korle Klottey constituency, he observed that the party’s vote tally saw a dip as opposed to his opponent whose votes hovered around the previous year’s election total.
However, responding to these remarks in an interview on GHOne TV with Lily Mohammed, Mrs. Mogtari accused Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of spreading blatant falsehoods and mocking the opposition’s manifesto in a bid to win the election.
She emphasized that it is crucial to preserve the true narrative of the election in which the National Democratic Congress (NDC) emerged victorious in a contest of leadership, style, credibility, and trustworthiness.
“He (Bawumia) should advise himself first. He tried to disrupt the agenda. He tried to lower the bar on the campaign. He tried to break all the rules just because he was desperate to win. He told so many bare-faced lies.
“(He) even tried to ridicule his opponent’s manifesto. Who does that? This is the lowest campaign we’ve ever had. Let’s leave it there and let him face his shame alone. Mr. Mahama is the nominee of the good people of Ghana. The fact that we garnered nearly 1.7 million votes is in itself historic,” she stated.
She continued: “I have told you guys and I have said it many times, We (NDC) are not going to allow anybody to change the narrative. We went into a contest, a contest of ideas, a contest of style, a contest of leadership, a contest of credibility, a contest of trustworthiness. We beat him hands down, flat out. Let’s not change the narrative.”
