The High Court in Accra has yet again ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to proceed to collate and declare the Parliamentary Election results of the Ablekuma North Constituency Parliamentary results despite strong opposition from the NDC that it had already been collated declared.
The Court presided over by Justice Rev. Joseph Adu-Owusu Agyeman, the orders made by the Court with respect to the Nsawam Adoagyiri constituency apply.
Additionally, the Court also ordered the Inspector General of Police to provide adequate security to the EC at all collation centers.
The order of the Court was made on Friday, December 20, 2024, following a Mandamus Application from incumbent Member of Parliament Nsawam Adoagyiri to compel the EC to collate and declare the results.
The EC lawyers, led by Justine Amenuvor, said the EC had been served with the application but did not oppose it.
With lawyers of the National Democratic Congress led by Godwin Tamekloe opposing the move, the Court said they were not a party to the case and were only heard as friends to the Court.
On December 10, 2024, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, Ewurabyna Aubynn was declared MP-elect for the area following a standoff at the Greater Accra Regional Collation Centre.
The declaration was made on 219 results out of the 281 polling stations that were collated which resulted in a standoff between members of the NPP and the NDC.
The Ablekuma North seat has for the past twenty years been occupied by the NPP but the declaration of Ewurabena as the winner, marked a significant shift in politics in the area.
