The National Peace Council (NPC) has urged all political party representatives to seek redress for any election concerns through legal and peaceful means.
This call comes amid tensions surrounding the delayed collation of election results for three constituencies in the Eastern Region: Akwatia, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, and Fanteakwa.
The initial plan of collating results at the constituency level was moved to the regional level and later to the national level at the Tesano Training School in the Greater Accra Region.
This decision by the Electoral Commission follows reports of disruptions and arson at other collation centers across the country, which were not influenced by any political party or the police.
“Our understanding is that the Electoral Commission moved the collation of results from Akwatia, Nsawam-Adoagyiri and Fanteakwa constituencies to the regional level and now to the national level due to the widely reported incidents of disruption and arson at other collation centres around the country,” the NPC stated.
To address the ongoing tensions, the NPC is urging the Electoral Commission to convene an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting with political parties and key stakeholders to find a mutually agreeable solution.
The NPC assured the public that it remains engaged with relevant stakeholders to resolve the matter and ensure a peaceful conclusion to the electoral process.
“The NPC will continue to speak with relevant stakeholders to resolve the matter and ensure a peaceful resolution.”
