Electoral Commission chairperson, Jean Mensa has called for patience as the results of the presidential election are being collated and reviewed.
Speaking in a press conference, she emphasized the importance of accuracy and transparency in the electoral process.
“It’s important that we exercise patience, we take our time and we are very thorough in producing the results at the national level,” she stated.
She further said the Commission aims to declare the presidential election results within 72 hours, a standard timeframe.
“We believe that within 72 hours, and this has been the norm, we should be able to declare the results of the presidential election. As I indicated, we broke that record in 2020 and declared it in 48 hours, but we do have 72 hours within which to declare the presidential results,” she noted.
She explained that delays in some coalition centers have been attributed to the presence of political party supporters.
“In the anxiety and in the excitement, some supporters of political parties have besieged our coalition offices, making it difficult in some cases for our offices to carry out their functions,” she explained.
Jean Mensah reassured the public of the electoral commission’s commitment to transparency and accountability assuring the public that the final result would reflect the will of citizens as expressed at the polls.
“We have walked the walk of transparency, accountability, responsiveness, and inclusiveness,” he affirmed.
Adding that “It is the will of the people as expressed at the polls that have been reflected on the pink sheets that will be declared at the end of the day”.
