The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has asserted that the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, will not find peace until he signs the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill into law if he wins the presidency in the 2024 elections.
The Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill, which was introduced in August 2021, was approved by Parliament in February 2024.
Despite widespread support from religious and traditional leaders, as well as ordinary citizens, the bill is still awaiting President Nana Akufo-Addo’s signature to become law.
Speaking to the media, Mr. George emphasised, “Mahama has been clear that he will sign the bill, and he has no choice but to do so. He will know no peace until the bill is signed into law.”
He further added that Mahama has made his stance clear to religious leaders, stating that, as a Christian and a member of the Assemblies of God, he is not opposed to the bill.
George clarified that Mahama’s previous comments to the BBC were in response to questions about why President Akufo-Addo has not yet signed the bill.
