Gonten Electoral Area Assemblyman and New Patriotic Party (NPP) executive in the Okaikwei South Constituency, Obed Nyarko, has dismissed claims circulating about the alleged use of pre-thumb-printed ballots in favor of Darkoa Newman, the NPP parliamentary candidate.
Speaking to the press, Nyarko explained that the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding involving sample ballots used for voter education purposes. He clarified that the samples, which were clearly marked as such, were being used to teach first-time voters how to properly cast their ballots.
“The issue started when one of our educators parked his car outside to assist a voter. Upon returning, there was confusion involving the sample ballots in his possession. The opposition party accused him of attempting to stuff the ballot box with pre-thumb-printed ballots,” Nyarko said.
Nyarko emphasized that the accusations were baseless and intended to create unnecessary tension. “This was a needless situation stirred up by the opposition. As you can see, the ballots in question were only samples. It is important to clarify this to prevent any further misinformation.”
The assemblyman also called for calm and urged the public to focus on the electoral process, stressing the importance of transparency and fairness in elections. “Let’s debunk these rumors and stay committed to peaceful and credible elections,” he added.
