The Ghana Police Service has arrested 89 individuals in connection with various offences committed during the 2024 general elections.
According to an update released on Monday, December 9, 40 of the arrested suspects are directly linked to acts of vandalism, looting, and property destruction. The remaining suspects face charges related to other electoral offenses.
All of the arrested individuals, the Police stated, will be processed through the legal system and brought before the courts for prosecution.
They explained that the arrests are part of the ongoing security measures implemented by the Police to maintain peace, law, and order following the elections.
The Police emphasised that they are currently in the post-election security phase, with additional measures in place to ensure public safety.
They also cautioned the public against engaging in violent acts, as those responsible will be arrested and taken through the full legal process.
To maintain security, the Police have increased visibility through joint patrols with other security agencies, conducted intelligence-led operations, and deployed personnel to protect key state facilities.
A special investigation team has also been set up to review videos of the incidents, identify the perpetrators, and ensure they face justice.
