Afari Paul Robinson a visually impaired retired mathematics teacher in New Juaben South in Eastern Region has defied the odds to cast his vote in the ongoing elections.
Determined not to lose his franchise, he was accompanied to the voting booth by his wife, demonstrating his commitment to exercising his civic duty despite absent of tactile jacket promised by the Electoral Commission.
Despite early presence of some voters as at 3:00am at some polling stations, subsequent turnout has been relatively low in some areas.
At the Koforidua Poly 2B Polling Station, out of 429 registered voters, only 39 had voted as of 9:30 AM.
Similarly, at the Koforidua Poly 3A Polling Station, with 439 registered voters, just 34 had cast their ballots by 9:37 AM.
Engineer Seth Danso Atuah, a senior staff member at Koforidua Technical University, has attributed the low turnout to a change in Academic calendar
Voting is underway across the country in the presidential and parliamentary elections.
