The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has declared the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate (PC), Elikplim Akurugu, as the winner of the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency election.
This declaration comes after EC Chair Jean Mensa announced, following investigations and thorough scrutiny of the circumstances surrounding the use of a training sheet to tally the results, that the returning officer’s figures on her sheet pointed to one outcome.
“Today, we are pleased to announce that the proceedings and collation at the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency have come to a close.
It has gone full circle, and we are convinced beyond any shadow of a doubt that the outcome reflects the will of the people as expressed at the polls. Ours is not to make anybody president or MP. Ours is to ensure that our processes guarantee the people’s choice is upheld,” Madam Mensa stated.
The outcome of the election in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency is UPHELD. Therefore, NDC PC Elikplim Akurugu is validly elected as the MP-elect for the largest constituency in Ghana.
During a press briefing with the interested parties, except for the NPP, the returning officer, James Zakariah Kwofie, announced the NDC PC as the winner of the parliamentary election in the area.
