The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has warned the public against attacks on security personnel.
In a press release signed by Brigadier General E. Aggrey Quarshie, he noted that the Ghana Armed Forces has seen attempt by mobs to disarm military personnel on official duty as part of military backing of the Ghana Police Service to bring back law and order in the country.
He explained that military personnel who are on authorized duty are permitted to protect themselves, and innocent civilians, and to safeguard life and property.
“GAF wishes to caution all and sundry that military personnel on authorized duty have the right to defend themselves, innocent civilians, and property, including the use of lethal force, if necessary, to preserve life.”
The GAF also advised Ghanaians to act as responsible citizens, collaborate with security officers, and avoid any actions that could disrupt peace.
“GAF wishes to once again encourage all Ghanaians to exercise their civic rights responsibly, cooperate with security personnel, and refrain from any act that could disrupt the peace.”
The military urged all citizens to support efforts to restore calm during these crucial times and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the country’s stability and sovereignty.
