Commotion occured in Tamale when a crowd of jubilant National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters reportedly made their way into a warehouse in an attempt to claim items from the place.
The military arrived at the scene to manage the situation although the rowdy crowd appeared to be undeterred by their presence.
They fired multiple warning shots to discourage the crowd from accessing the warehouse.
A resident who spoke to Gh One’s Abdul Hanan accused the local assembly of hoarding items which did not belong to them.
It is unknown the specific items kept in the warehouse understood to be in close proximity to the assembly.
Soeaking as the unfortunate event unfolded, Dr. Adam Bonaa reminded the politicians that the uproar spoke to people’s hunger, anger and frustration with the status quo.
“What is happening now, unfortunate as it is, reflects the hype of using government money to do things that they knew were not correct,” he said during EIB Network’s coverage of the 2024 general election.
He added that if the people felt public funds were put to better use, they would not protest in such a manner.
Dr. Bonaa expressed hope that the regional security council would meet in an emergency session as early as this afternoon and approve measures to control the situation.
The uproar took effect moments after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s conceded the race to former President John Mahama at his residence.
He acknowledged that his political rival had “won the elections decisively” and accepted the outcome with “all humility”.
