Fad Osman, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications team, has reacted to the formation of the Organised Reporting and Accountability Leadership (ORAL) Team set up by President-elect John Dramani Mahama, emphasizing that no government is free from scandals.
The ORAL Team, which is tasked with gathering information on acts of corruption and ensuring accountability once Mahama assumes office, aligns with his anti-corruption agenda that was central to his 2024 campaign.
Many Ghanaians have expressed support for the team, hoping for effective investigations into corruption.
However, during an interview on GHOne TV, Osman acknowledged the need for investigations into corruption but stated that no administration is exempt from scandal.
He further stressed that while investigations into past corruption are necessary, it is important to recognise that scandals are inevitable in any government.
Osman also expressed skepticism about the ORAL Team’s approach, describing its work as potentially “gossip” and “theatrics.”
“This committee is going to engage in gossip, if you are going to gather information, certainly it has to start with gossip. The second one is going to be theatrics, completely theatrics. Because if you look at the members of the committee and what they will be doing, yesterday I read that they’ve had a first meeting and they’ve set up laid down rules that will guide the operations of this committee and that they will not be paid, no allowances , I think it’s good but what is important here is that nobody is trying to justify what happened in terms of corruption in the previous administration or the outgoing government, I’m not here to justify that.”
“No government is free from scandals, there will certainly be some scandals. the point is that there will be scandals which we do acknowledge, there should be investigations, some had happened in the past. There’s a new administration coming, we don’t have a problem if they want to reopen some of these scandals to investigate them again,. there’s no problem, we need money.”
