Presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of neglecting the Ashanti Region throughout its eight years in power.
Despite being the stronghold of the governing NPP and contributes heavily to its fortunes in every election cycle, Mr. Mahama claimed the party has failed to complete a single major project in the region in their tenure.
Speaking during a mega rally at the Kumasi Jubilee Party as part of his campaign tour of the Ashanti Region, the former president said the NPP is only in a haste to execute road projects because of the upcoming elections.
“Let us be honest, the NPP has been unfair to Ashanti Region. This region gives them more votes than any other region yet, they have not completed most of the developmental projects here. Now that they’ve seen the election is approaching after eight years of nothing, they have got contractors on the roads to create the impression that they are working. It is all trickery.
Former President Mahama also criticized President Akufo-Addo for commissioning uncompleted projects, labeling it as an attempt to deceive the public and vowed the NDC is committed to completing all the unfinished interchanges and other infrastructure projects initiated by the NPP.
“It is the NDC that will come in and complete the interchanges and roads that are trying to start, I can assure you of that,” he said at the rally.
Mr. Mahama took the gathering through a litany of promises the NPP had made which he called “419”.
