The Electoral Commission (EC) says it will not accept the collated results of the Dome Kwabenya, Tema Central, Ablekuma North, and Okaikwei Central constituencies in the just-ended parliamentary elections.
During a press briefing in Accra on Thursday, December 19, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa outlined the irregularities that led to the decision. According to her, the results for Okaikwei Central and Ablekuma North were declared without proper collation, involving significant omissions.
In the case of Okaikwei Central constituency results from 31 polling stations were excluded.
Also in Ablekuma North, results from 62 polling stations were not collated.
This is unacceptable, the declarations were made under threats and the Commission considers these as illegal. Those declarations similar in other constituencies will not be upheld.”
“It is important to note that the declarations made by our staff were made under threat, and Commission considers this as illegal, those declarations, as well as others that have gone on in other constituencies will not be upheld by the Commission,” she said.
Out of 12 constituencies flagged for re-collation, the EC has successfully completed the process for Suhum, Akwatia, and Fanteakwa North. However, the contested results in Okaikwei Central and Ablekuma North remain unresolved due to the irregularities.
The commission also called on President Akufo Addo, President elect John Dramani Mahama to intervene to ensure smooth collation process of the outstanding constituencies.
