Government warehouses in Tamale were looted on Sunday, with the largest attack targeting the Regional Agric warehouse.
The facility, which stored rice, oil, and fertilizers, was invaded by youth wearing NDC and NPP party t-shirts.
The attackers also targeted the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly and Ministry of Agriculture warehouses, causing significant losses.
Police and military personnel intervened, arresting 20 suspects at the scene.
In an interview with the Northern Regional Agriculture Director, Hajia Hawa Musah, she stated that the warehouses were guarded by security but was not enough to stop the angry mob. She noted; ” They have their own men _ two of them. Two for night and one for day, but as you can see the security man is old. There’s nothing he can do when the mob come on them because they are very strong and young men with just a few women. If they come with guns and cutlasses, you just have to run for you life.”
Chief Sofo Azorka, who visited the warehouses, condemned the actions as criminal and called on the authorities to prosecute those involved. Investigations are still ongoing to ensure justice is served.
