A Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Asah Asante has described Lydia Alhassan’s food sharing during the just-ended special voting as a wrong move.
The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West and NPP parliamentary candidate, Lydia Seyram Alhassan was seen in a video sharing packs of food and bottles of water with her constituents who were in a queue during the special voting on December 2nd, 2024.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey, Dr. Asah-Asante expected the lawmaker to exhibit a high standard of professionalism during the exercise.
“That was a wrong move by the Member of Parliament, who is supposed to know better,” he noted.
Dr. Asah-Asante is unhappy about the inequality in our society, questioning why Lydia Alhassan has not been arrested by the police.
“This is called an unequal playing field. Why is the Honourable Member of Parliament walking as a free person? She must be arrested because if it were an ordinary person who did that, they would have been arrested.”
He also fears that if such actions persist, they will undermine the credibility and sanctity of the December 7th election.
“Once we allow people, because of their position or status in society, to go against the rules of the game, I’m afraid it would undermine the credibility and sanctity of the election,” he said.
