Member of Parliament elect for Ablekuma West constituency, Rev. Kweku Addo has expressed confidence that the NDC will retain the seat for many years to come.
Rev. Addo’s victory marks the first time the NDC has won the Ablekuma West seat under the Fourth Republic. He secured 31,866 votes, defeating incumbent Ursula Owusu-Ekuful (NPP) who received 26,575 votes.
In an interview with Serwaa Amihere on GHOne TV on December 19th, 2024, Rev. Addo stated his intention to establish long-term NDC dominance in the constituency.
He referred to his predecessor’s long tenure as motivation for securing the seat for his party for a prolonged period.
“She has been an MP for 12 years so she may have believed that she had what it takes, but we’re also adamant; we’ll hold the seat for a very long time,” he said.
He emphasized that this long-term vision extends beyond his own tenure.
When asked about the duration, he clarified, “As long as it takes, but not only in my term; maybe when I finish, I’ll make sure an NDC person takes over so the ‘building Ghana’ agenda can continue.”
Rev. Addo suggested he might serve for one or more terms before another NDC candidate takes over. Responding to a question about term length, he said, “After the four years, maybe I’ll do another one or two terms, then somebody else can come.”
