Former Ghana U-20 World Cup-winning goalkeeper, Daniel Adjei, has stated that he was not provided with formal documentation regarding the GHS 10,000 government investment made under the late President John Evans Atta Mills.
This claim arises following the maturity of a fifteen-year investment made by the Ministry of Youth and Sports on behalf of the Black Satellites’ 2009 U-20 World Cup squad.
In an interview with EIB Sports, Daniel Adjei revealed that he and his teammates from the victorious 2009 squad only received certificates as evidence of the investment made through SAS Investment Company. “Yeah, we were given a certificate for the contract involving the investment with SAS.
We have some documents, but I haven’t seen any insurance policy documents. Personally, I can tell you that from day one until now, I don’t have any documentation showing that this amount will be given to me,” he stated. “My friends do have it because, at that time, I was playing with the senior national team, so I wasn’t paying attention to that.
My godfather handled things on my behalf to acquire that document,” he explained. “And you know how it is when you move from one place to another; sometimes you misplace documents. It’s difficult to find them. But I know my document is with my godfather.
Others have their documents, but no one has informed me about having the insurance company documents. The only document they possess is the SAS investment certificate,” he told EIB Sports.
Ghana became the first African country to win the trophy, with Sellas Tetteh leading the team to a 4-3 victory on penalties against Brazil in Cairo, Egypt in 2009.
Agyemang Badu scored the decisive penalty that secured the win.
