Tensions are running high at the Greater Accra Regional Office of the Electoral Commission (EC), as heavy security has been deployed ahead of the crucial collation of outstanding election results.
The electoral Commission is acting on a directive from the High Court to finalize the results for three hotly contested constituencies: Tema Central, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North and Techiman South.
In the case of Okaikwei Central, the court ordered the EC to collate results from 31 outstanding polling stations, integrate them into the previously counted results, and promptly declare the winner.
For Ablekuma North, the court presided by Justice Baah Forson gave the EC a firm deadline of January 6, 2025, to finalize and declare the results after including 62 outstanding polling stations.
The court’s order also includes a directive to the Inspector General of Police to ensure a tight security presence at all collation centers, safeguarding the integrity of the process as the EC fulfills its constitutional mandate.
In a similar directive for Tema Central, the EC was ordered to also finalize results from just 2 remaining polling stations, with a deadline to declare the winner on or before January 6, 2025.
These pivotal results are expected to significantly influence the balance of power in Parliament, heightening the political stakes and adding to the intense atmosphere as the EC moves to conclude this critical phase of the election process.
