Former Member of Parliament for Ashaiman and former Majority Leader, Alfred Agbesi, has expressed his satisfaction with the performance of Speaker Alban Bagbin in the outgoing 8th Parliament.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey, Mr. Agbesi praised Bagbin’s leadership, calling his work “remarkable.”
He emphasised that Bagbin had earned a high rating for his efforts and expressed his desire for him to continue as Speaker in the 9th Parliament.
Agbesi acknowledged that some of Bagbin’s rulings had been challenged in court, but he emphasized that this was not unusual in parliamentary proceedings.
He added that anyone making decisions that affect people must be prepared for their decisions to be questioned.
Agbesi expressed his expectations for Bagbin in the 9th Parliament, stating that he hopes Bagbin will continue to fulfill his duties as Speaker.
“If I was awarding marks Bagbin would have taken 90 % to me he did extremely well so let him continue because has gain a lot of experience and he handles serious situations so I would wish he continues to be the speaker of the ninth parliament ” he said.
“The fact that his rulings were challenged in court doesn’t mean it was not true and very soon you will realize that. A speaker is like a judge , he takes all issues into consideration and come out with a decision.”
“Anybody who makes a decision that affects human beings should be ready to be that their decision will be open to scrutiny, and his decision being scrutinized is nothing new. I expect him to be a speaker and do what speakers do not forgetting the fact that his background is NDC and pursue his duties.”
