President Akufo-Addo has expressed his deepest sympathy to the thousands of traders affected by the devastating fire at Kantamanto market in Accra.
The fire, which occurred on Thursday, January 2, 2025, destroyed over 100 shops, leaving traders in despair.
Kantamanto, known for its vibrant atmosphere and diverse range of goods, was quickly engulfed by flames.
The scene was one of heartbreak as traders, many of whom had invested their life savings, sifted through the charred remains of their stalls in hopes of salvaging anything of value. The air was thick with smoke, and the sound of sobbing filled the atmosphere as the harsh reality of the disaster set in.
During his final State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Friday, January 3, 2025, President Akufo-Addo conveyed his heartfelt condolences to those affected by the tragedy.
“I am deeply saddened by the devastating fire at Kantamanto market, the President said. My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected and I extend heartfelt sympathies to the hardworking traders who have lost their goods and investments.”
