The Krontihene ofAkyem Asuom, Nana Boadi Amponim Obodade III, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to pass the necessary laws that would grant the Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) full legal authority and operational capacity to tackle corruption effectively.
Speaking on GHOne TV with Lily Mohammed, Nana Obodade III emphasized that the people of Ghana voted for President John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) largely because of their commitment to creating the ORAL to fight corruption.
“If we are going to leave it with the OSP, which was formed and staffed by President Akufo-Addo and we expect these same people to punish the over 700 individuals implicated in corruption, they will just clear them as it’s usual”.
The traditional ruler further argued that ORAL should not only be strengthened but also be supported financially. He highlighted the need for adequate staffing and resources to ensure the office’s sustainability beyond the upcoming electoral period, extending beyond the 2025-2028 administration.
“Go to Parliament. Enact the laws that should back ORAL so that ORAL can have all the capacity, legal right to prosecute, to go court, investigate and subject all these people Ghanaians want.”.
