Parliament has on Thursday, January 2, approved a mini budget of GH₵68.13 billion for the first quarter of 2025, following thorough deliberations with Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam.
The approved amount will cover essential government expenses, including salaries of public sector workers, statutory payments, critical infrastructure maintenance, and funding for social intervention programs.
Key points of contention included spending priorities in healthcare, education, and infrastructure, as well as revenue mobilization strategies.
The breakdown of the approved mini-budget includes GH₵16,462,828,490 for compensation for employees, GH₵3,123,221,785 for goods and services, and GH₵20,691,523,500 for interest payments.
Additionally, GH₵45,507,080 has been allocated for subsidies, GH₵9,193,773,211 for grants to other government units, GH₵234,703,983 for social benefits, and GH₵5,293,248,499 for other government expenditures.
Furthermore, GH₵2,345,505,925 has been set aside for arrears clearance and GH₵1,280,544,603 for amortisation.
