The newly sworn-in president of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has promised effective work in the public health systems to be able to handle future pandemics.
During his speech at his inauguration on January 7 he mentioned how COVID-19 brought the world to a halt, and caused a lot of damage, especially to Ghanaians.
He added that his new government will work to make the public health systems better to be able to handle any pandemic well.
“With the increase of the climate crisis, there is a likelihood of viruses that have been thought to be extinct for decades to begin to spread and create another pandemic.
“This is a serious challenge and so let us not forget the toll that the past epidemics of viruses had on families and communities in our neighbouring countries.
“My government will be working diligently to strengthen our public health systems while monitoring the global health situation so that when the next pandemic or epidemic occurs the loss of lives in Ghana will be minimal”.
