President John Mahama has revealed government plans to partner with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana to revive the Pomadze Poultry Farm near Wineaba in the Central Region.
The state-owned facility which was once a vibrant poultry production hub and a contributor to Ghana’s economy was sold to a private investor in 2002 following its closure in the 1980s for non-performance.
Speaking during the 92nd National Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Gomoa Pomadze, President Mahama underscored the need to collaborate with the faith-based organization to revitalize the poultry farm to its former glory.
“Last year, as I stood on this ground, in my conversation with a meal, I came to the realization that these holy grounds were formerly the well-known state-owned Pomadze poultry farm.
“And when I stood at the podium, I promised you that if God answered our heart’s desire and I’m elected President, I will work with your Muslim mission to restore the Pomadze poultry farm back to its days of glory.
“I want us to make our dear Muslim mission, one of the biggest suppliers of chicken in this country. I tend to keep that promise I made, and I’ve already whispered to the Amir, some of the steps that I have started taking.
“This farm will become an example and will lead a way to encourage other faith-based organizations to realize that they can go into income-generating projects, both to generate funds for the missions and also to provide jobs for their congregants.”
According to him, the move would encourage faith-based organizations to look into income-generating projects.
