President John Dramani Mahama has expressed gratitude to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his early concession in the 2024 election.
In his inauguration speech on January 7, 2025, Mahama praised Bawumia’s sportsmanship, saying it contributed significantly to a tension-free election and the swift conclusion of the electoral process.
Mahama acknowledged that the election was fiercely contested, but Dr. Bawumia’s decision to concede defeat helped ease tensions and ensured a peaceful transfer of power.
The President-elect also wished Bawumia well in his future endeavors, stating, “I wish you all the best in your endeavors.”
Dr. Bawumia had conceded defeat on December 8, 2024, in a press conference, where he announced that his internal data indicated Mahama had won the presidential election decisively .
He also congratulated Mahama on his victory, demonstrating his commitment to democracy and peaceful transition.
Mahama said, “My warmth wishes to his excellency the former vice president, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia it was a grinning campaign and we have it our all, your sportsmanship in making an early concession eased tensions and led to the early conclusion of the electoral contest”.
