Renowned preacher, bestselling author, and co-pastor of The Potter’s House, Pastor Sarah Jakes Roberts has described being in her father’s shadow as a blessing rather than a burden, saying it has allowed her to grow in purpose without pressure.
In an interview on Starr Chat with Bola Ray on Thursday, May 29, 2025 on Starr 103.5FM, Sarah and her husband, Pastor Touré Roberts, opened up about their personal and ministry journeys during their visit to Ghana.
Sarah, who now co-pastors The Potter’s House Church alongside her husband, spoke candidly about growing up as the daughter of world-renowned preacher Bishop T.D. Jakes.
“I think a part of me probably felt like I’d always be in my father’s shadow in some way — which isn’t necessarily a bad thing,” she said. “The beautiful part about being in a shadow is that you don’t have to take on so much of the heat.”
She noted that while some may see her platform as an inheritance, her path has been a calling grounded in personal conviction and divine direction. “God has affirmed me in my identity. Without a platform, without books, without a stadium, I felt comfortable in who I was,” she said.

Recalling her early desire for a quiet life as an administrative assistant and single mother, Sarah said her life took a surprising turn when her personal blog unexpectedly drew over a million readers within three months — a moment she described as her divine turning point.
Since then, she has become a global voice of faith and transformation through her movement Woman Evolve, bestselling books, and viral sermons. Yet despite her visibility, she remains grounded: “I only wanted this if God said I was anointed to do it. I didn’t want it because I was T.D. Jakes’ daughter.”
