Government says its Gun Amnesty programme will run from 1st December 2025 to 15th January 2026, giving citizens a limited window to surrender illicit firearms.
The Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak, launching the initiative, explained that the initiative is time‑bound and that post‑amnesty enforcement will be uncompromising.
He said, “From 1st December 2025 to 15th January 2026, any person who voluntarily hands over such weapons at designated collection points will be commended, not condemned.”
The Interior Minister cautioned that after the amnesty, law‑enforcement agencies will intensify operations to retrieve illegal firearms.
“When this amnesty period ends, the law will take its full course. The Ghana Police Service and all security agencies will intensify operations to recover illicit arms.”
According to him, additional measures will include enhanced border security, joint security operations post‑amnesty, and intensified swoops in crime hotspots.
The programme is part of a wider effort to strengthen border control, intensify operations in crime hotspots, and promote national security.
