The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has denied reports that the Manhyia palace has withdrawn its representatives from the various assemblies in the Ashanti region.

According to the Bantamahene, Baffour Owusu Amankwatia, the traditional council took the decision because it feels eliminated in local governance representation in the various assemblies.

He revealed that the assembly formerly had 5 representatives on the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and other assemblies but that has been reduced..

However, in a statement, the KMA SAID: “The report is not only misleading, but total misrepresentation of the statement made by the representative of Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, at the inauguration ceremony of the 8th Assembly of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly who was Chairman of the occasion.

“Baffour Asare Owusu Amankwatia VI, in his statement, indicated that, Manhyia previously had five representatives among the government appointees to the Assembly and wondered why Manhyia now has one or two representatives at KMA.

“The Mayor, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi, quickly explained to Baffour, and the general public, that, Kumasi has now been split into seven Assemblies, namely, Asokore Mampong Municipal, Tafo, Suame, Kwadaso, Asokwa, Oforikrom and the KMA.

“As a result, Manhyia now has one representative each at all the Municipal Assemblies and two at KMA, making the total number of Manhyia appointees eight instead of the previous five”.
