Controversial Ghanaian Reggae/Dancehall artiste, Charles Nii Armah Mensah, better known as Shatta Wale, has for some time expressed his sentiments publicly regarding other members of the Ghanaian music fraternity. This time around, he has launched a verbal attack on his colleague musician, Stonebwoy, following his recent interview with Berla Mundi
It will be recalled that on Thursday, August 24, 2023, the ‘Sobolo’ hitmaker participated in a live Twitter now (X) chat with Berla Mundi to debate the state of the country’s music space, following Nigeria’s Asake’s successful O2 arena performance.
When asked about the demands placed on Ghanaian musicians to reach the same success as their Nigerian counterparts, the father of two stated that such pressures would not solve anything until the proper structures were put in place. He further opined that more knowledge about the industry is required to ensure that it expands to the required height.
However, Stonebwoy’s statement did not sit well with Shatta Wale as he disagreed with Stonebwoy, claiming that although Stonebwoy says he’s not pressured, he’s following the footprint of Burna Boy by dressing like him etc.
In the words of Shatta Wale, “Stonebwoy was asked if he was facing pressure, and he said no pressure, but awareness. You dress and do your Instagram photos like Burna Boy. Hasn’t anyone told you? You are facing pressure, which is why you want to go on stage later, you want to be on stage at the same time as Wizkid? Look at what you did at AfroNation Detroit. You were given time to come on stage, you wanted to go at the time you wanted.
The ‘Taking Over’ singer in a viral video continued, “You allow yourself to be paid $10,000 while Burna Boy gets paid $300,000. Did you expect to be treated like an important person? You are just a curtain raiser!! You will never get the same platform as Wizkid, Davido, or Burna Boy!” he fumed.
