The Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, has been named as the leader for minority side in the next parliament.

According to Starrfmonline.com sources, the 46-year-old lawyer will be deputized by the Member of Parliament for Ketu North, James Klutse Avedzi.

Reports indicate that the Volta Caucus in Parliament had been pushing Mr. Avedzi for the top job but the National Executive of the National Democratic Congress backed the candidature of Hon. Iddrisu who has been in parliament since 2004.

Meanwhile, the former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya Professor Mike Ocquaye is expected to be confirmed as the Speaker of the next Parliament.

Mr. Ocquaye will be deputized by Joe Osei Wusu, MP for Bekwai while current Majority Leader Alban Bagbin becomes the second deputy Speaker of the House in the Seventh Parliament starting January 7, 2017.

Asawase MP Mohammed Muntaka, maintains his position as the Chief Whip, while Member of Parliament for Banda Ahmard Ibrahim, and the Member of Parliament for Ada East, Hon. Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah, serving as deputy chief whips.

Current Minority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu is expected to become the Majority leader assisted by Adwoa Sarfo Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya.
