The Senior Minister-designate, Yaw Osafo Marfo has clarified his designation to the Appointments Committee of Parliament during his vetting, noting that his task will be to coordinate the economic sectors of government to ensure sustainable development.

According to him, he will be linking with other Ministers to resuscitate the ailing economy.

Mr. Marfo’s explanation was in response to a question posed to him by the Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Joe Osei Owusu.

His nomination as Senior Minister-designate by President Akufo-Addo caused huge confusion among Ghanaians with experts claiming that his designation will lead to duplication of roles and may lead to the usurpation of the powers of the president’s chief of staff.

But speaking Friday at his vetting, he allayed the fears of the governance experts stating: “I’m to coordinate the activities of the economic sectors of his [Akufo-Addo’s] cabinet as it may be…and he wanted me to bring my experience as a minister of finance, as somebody who had done a similar job in Uganda, a similar job in Liberia to bare.”
