Acting national chairman of the New Patriotic Party Freddie Blay has said he is open for an appointment by President Akufo-Addo.

Mr. Blay, who expressed interest to be Speaker of Parliament in the 7th Parliament, lost the job to fellow party elder Professor Mike Oquaye after he was nominated by the NPP.

Speaking to Accra-based Asempa FM, Mr.  Blay said even though the Speaker role is no longer vacant, he wishes he was in the position.

“Of course traditionally, when there’s a vacant seat people contest to occupy it. I was hoping to be made the Speaker of Parliament, but I never spoke to the President about it. I wish I had it but I couldn’t have made noise about my wish. I’m currently serving as the Acting National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), but if there’s any place that the President wants me to serve which will not affect my job in the party, I will gladly take it up,” he said.

Mr. Blay, who is former lawmaker and a former second deputy speaker of Parliament, said he has confidence in Professor Oquaye to deliver as Speaker of Parliament, under the current dispensation.
