The Brong Ahafo Municipal Health Directorate is investigating a possible outbreak of Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM) in the region after a pupil is suspected to have died of the disease at the Kintampo Hospital Thursday.

The Werla Presby primary pupil reportedly exhibited symptoms of the disease before passing away while on admission with two others from the same school.

The situation has left teachers in panic, while Parents are scared to take their wards to school.

Doctors  in the area are yet to confirm if he died of CMS.

The Municipal Health Directorate is demanding patient information from the Kintampo Hospital to understand what may have caused the death.

A local reporter Wiafe Akenteng told Starr News residents of the area have become anxious about the situation and are waiting for answers.

CSM is an acute inflammation of the membranes covering the brain and the spinal cord (meninges). This condition is classified as a medical emergency. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) about 10 -15 % of patients diagnosed with CSM die.
