Doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital are threatening to lay down their tools in the coming days if concerns at the crisis-hit emergency unit of the hospital are not addressed.
The emergency unit of the biggest public hospital in the Ashanti region, has been described as a death trap by some doctors after it ran out of emergency drugs and other essential supplies.
According to Ultimate News’ Isaac Bediako Justice, doctors at the facility have expressed frustration and have called on authorities of the Hospital to address the concerns as soon as possible since relatives of patients constantly pour their frustration on them.
Some of the doctors who spoke to Bediako said the lack of readily available and sustainable oxygen has become troubling for them.
Another issue raised by the doctors is the lack of blood at the emergency unit which was constructed in 2008. According to the doctors, the unavailability of blood has led to the introduction of the cash and carry system at the facility.
The angry doctors state that forcing patients to pay upfront for blood transfusion is problematic since victims who may be transiting to other regions may not have their relatives to support immediately.
Reports also indicate that five people recently lost their lives at the emergency unit after their oxygen supply was suddenly cut.
