The Koforidua School for the Deaf has turned away over 70 children seeking admission due to accommodation challenges.
The limited hostel facility in the School is congested by a little over 250 pupils with hearing impairment making it impossible for authorities to admit new ones.
About 70 new pupils have been put on waiting list pending the completion of the final year pupils.
The headmaster of the Koforidua School for the Deaf, Jordan Agbona told Starr News, inadequate hostel accommodation is a major challenge confronting the school.
“The challenges are numerous. One pressing challenge is accommodation… Many parents are coming, bringing in 
wards but because we don’t have facilities [and] the dormitories to accommodate them, about 250 are in residents. Between 70 to 100 more are on the waiting list. Because we don’t have the structures we are unable to take them onboard, so we are appealing to any well-meaning individual to come to their aid.
“Government is doing its part but we want government to do more, the churches and other groups can also come and support, as I speak, they are congested in the dormitories,” the headmaster lamented.
Meanwhile, the congested dormitory in the school has been infested with Bedbugs exposing the deaf pupils to a major health risk.
In a related development, a youth Group of East Ghana Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, SDA, has donated several food items such as bags of rice, sugar, milk, soft drinks, cooking oil among others worth Ghc1,500 to the Koforidua School for the Death as part of the Global Youth celebration held on Saturday.
The Church also embarked on a blood donation exercise to stock the blood bank of the Regional Hospital in Koforidua.
