UBA Ghana in partnership with MasterCard has launched an Instant Debit Card across all UBA branches nationwide.

The UBA MasterCard allows customers of the bank to carry out transactions at Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and to pay for goods and services at Point of Sales Terminals (POS) worldwide.

It also gives customers the privileged opportunity of carrying out secure web transactions. With this card, customers can do transactions at over 1.5 million ATMs in more than 210 countries across the world as well as locally.

The card is directly linked to a current or savings account which means that all transactions done are reflected in the customer’s account in real time.

The partnership, which has been described by both UBA and MasterCard as strategic, will focus on increased payment infrastructure across Africa, including the roll out of Point of Sale and Mobile Point of Sale technology to ensure merchants are able to accept cards introduced into African markets.

With a customer base in excess of 10 million across Africa, UBA has invested heavily in building robust and secure digital banking platforms across the continent.

Speaking at the launch, UBA Ghana MD, Abiola Marufatu Bawuah stated that the needs of customers keep changing thus making it necessary for the bank to “adapt through strategic innovations to provide them accessible and superior services”.

She added that the partnership will afford UBA the chance to be able to drive financial inclusion and economic wellbeing across the continent.

On her part, the Area Business Head, West Africa for MasterCard Omoke Adebanjo, said her company was delighted to be partnering UBA.

She continued to say that the product and campaign dubbed: “Priceless U” was an initiative that had the consumer in mind, particularly in terms of safety, security, and rewards.

MasterCard is a technology company in the global payments industry which operates the world’s fastest payments processing network.
