Some irate youth of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) have held hostage assembly members of the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly for failing to confirm the president’s MCE nominee for the area, Ebenezer Kupualor.

Mr Kupualor’s rejection was the second since the process of confirming his nomination commenced. This was after he had 33 yes votes with 27 voting no.

The rejection of Mr Kupualor angered his supporters thus taking the Assembly members hostage, demanding they refund the monies they took from the MCE nominee for them to confirm him.

The assembly members are alleged to have taken GHs 2000 each during the first exercise and GHs1000 before today’s exercise.

The Eastern regional minister, Eric Kwakye Darfuor, according to Starr News’ correspondent there had been whisked away from the mêlée by the police.

Police reinforcement team, he said arrived at the premises of the Municipal assembly as irate party supporters increase in strength.

Mr Kupualor failed to secure confirmation by the Assembly during the voting exercise held on Monday and supervised by the Electoral Commission.

Out of the 63 valid votes cast, 31 voted Yes, representing 50.8% of total votes cast, while 29 voted No, representing 44.3%, hence the nominee failed to garner two-thirds majority endorsement to affirm his nomination.
