Calm has returned to Savelugu in the Northern region after a three-man government delegation met with angry youth protesting against the nomination of Hajia Aishetu Seidu as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).

An executive of the protesting youth told Starr News’ Northern regional correspondent Eliasu Tanko that they have “softened their stance” after meeting the delegation.

Tanko said though the reason for calm by the angry youth is unknown, the delegation drummed home the need to accept and work with the MCE that was appointed by President Akufo-Addo.

He said the youth are scheduled to address the media Wednesday.

Despite the latest development, about 20 armed police men have been stationed at the office of the MCE as a pre-emptive measure.

There has been uneasy calm in Savelugu over the MCE’s appointment as the youth protest her candidature. They embarked on a series of protests including locking up the assembly office to register their displeasure until the government delegation was dispatched to the area.
