Ghana have fallen by four places in the latest Fifa World Ranking released on Wednesday.

June’s ranking sees Ghana on the 49th position with an accompanying decrease in total accumulated points from 682 to 678.

Placed 37th in June last year, Ghana now find themselves between Australia (48) and Serbia (50) on the ladder.

On continental level, the Black Stars have also moved down by a place to the ninth position, only above Algeria (53) in Africa’s top 10.

Egypt (20) still lead the pack on the continent, while Senegal (27), 2017 Afcon champions Cameroon (32), Nigeria (38), DR Congo (39), Tunisia (41) and Burkina Faso (41) make up the top eight in that order.

Back on the global stage, there was no change among the top 10, with Brazil still maintaining their lead at the top ahead Argentina, Germany, Chile and Colombia follow in that order.

France, Belgium, Portugal, Switzerland and Spain, in that sequence, complete the top 10.

Ghana’s highest ever performance since the ranking’s introduction in August 1993 remains a 14th place in February 2008, while their worst placement was an 89th position in June 2004.

The Black Stars’ last main assignment was at the 2017 Afcon in Gabon, where they finished fourth after losing 1-0 to Burkina Faso in the third-place playoff.

Last week, Ghana’s B team were held to a 1-1 draw by Benin in a friendly fixture but the match had no bearing on the ranking since the game did not constitute a Fifa international “A” match.

The team return to action on June 11 when they face Ethiopia in the 2019 Afcon qualifiers.

The next edition of the ranking will be published on July 6.
