Small scale miners in the Ashanti region have resolved to go back to the mining pits they abandoned as they accuse government of not showing commitment in fighting galamsey.

The miners are expressing disquiet about what they say is the unfair targeting of their members while illegal miners are left to operate.

The Ashanti regional secretary of the Ghana National Association of Small Scale miners Michael Kwadwo Peprah said members will go back to their mining pits despite the ban on small scale mining.

“Our major concerns in the fight against illegal mining is that we believe that the government officials and some members of the security have not demonstrated that they are fighting against illegal miners but rather against we legal miners.

“It is disheartening that our license have not be revoked, suspended or cancelled but yet  legal miners have been prevented from their fair operations.

“We therefore wish to bring to the attention of the general public that members  of the association who have license for this year will go back to work, will go back to their  mining site to carry out their rightful legal  employment,” he told Starr Business.
