The Group President of Challenging Heights, Dr. James Kofi Annan, has ceded ownership of his Private Basic School to the Methodist Church of Ghana.

The Friends International School Academy located in Winneba is one of the best schools in the area having obtained 100% score in the last three Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Speaking at the handing over ceremony at the school’s premises at Winneba, Dr. Annan described the school as his most cherished asset.

The school which has a state-of-the-art Information and Communication Centre and a library was established to combat illiteracy borne out of child abuse and trafficking in the area as a lot of the children and parents in the area preferred sea life to education.

He explained his optimism in the church in maintaining the school as well as the core principles of the school such as its stance against discrimination, caning among others that will push children out of school.

He also urged the church to deepen education delivery in the school so as to maintain its status as the preferred school in the area while giving more opportunities to the deprived to access affordable and quality education.

The Methodist Church has also pledged to take good care of the facility which currently has 500 students.

Rt. Reverend Joseph Ato Brown who represented the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Most Reverend Titus Kofi Awotwe Pratt, indicated the commitment of the church in continuing with the good policies of Dr. Annan in offering the children in the area quality, but affordable education in fulfilment of the very objective for which the school was established.
