The Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has described as “reckless” claims by the National Chairman of the NDC that the ruling government is behind the recent murder of police personnel in the country.

At a press conference Thursday July 20, 2017, Kofi Portuphy claimed among other things that thugs backed by the government were behind the murder of a police officer at Lapaz, a suburb of Accra recently and across the country.

“Very credible intelligence reaching us has it that a lot of the armed robbery and killing of our hardworking police officers is being done by militant goons associated with the NPP,” he lucidly alleged during the press conference organised to counter president Akufo-Addo’s maiden encounter with the Ghanaian media.

But in his reaction, Kwaku Baako chastised the NDC chairman for being “irresponsible and reckless,” quizzing “You have credible intelligence pointing to those behind the killings of our policemen and you chose not to give it to the police?”

“You can talk about it if you want to,” he stated Saturday July 22, 2017 on News File “but I think the key thing is deliver the information to the police.”

He said even though the “irresponsible” claims of Portuphy were not factual the killing of police officers in line of duty is not “peculiar to this era.”

Citing a list of police personnel who were killed in line of duty during the NDC regime, he stated that “it is something we should deal with and make sure it doesn’t escalate…but to politicize and to seek to allocate blame squarely and exclusively on a government or a party is not the way forward.”
