A woman holds 03 July 2007 in Accra a wad new currency, the new cedi, that Ghana put in circulation that day, although the old money will still be valid until the end of the year. Currently, the cedi is one of the least valued currencies in Africa: 9000 cedis equal one US dollar. Ernest Addison, head of research at the Bank of Ghana, assured in November 2006 that the changeover was not a revaluation nor devaluation, and will not affect foreign exchange. The Auditor-General’s report has indicted Gilbert Addison, an accountant of the Nursing and Midwifery Council in the Western region, for embezzling over GH¢150, 000 belonging to the State.

This was contained in the 2015 Auditor General’s report which is being scrutinized by the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament (PAC).

According to the report, Mr. Addison used part of the stolen cash to build a garage in his house.

He has since been dismissed by the Controller and Accountant General after the malfeasance was unearth by the Auditor General in his report.

According to officials of the Council, some of the monies had been recovered.
