With palpable fears that Confederation of African Football (CAF) may on Saturday announce the withdrawal of hosting rights granted Cameroon for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, Sports Village Square has gathered from sources in Ghana that Cameroon’s former skipper, Samuel Eto’o has appealed to CAF Chief, Ahmad to help in retaining the rights.

There are suspicion that the withdrawal of hosting rights from Cameroon could be a reprisal action as Cameroon’s Issa Hayatou had in the days leading to the last CAF election withdrew the hosting rights earlier granted Ahmad’s Madagascar for the CAF Under 17 Nations Cup.

It was gathered that Eto’o made a last-ditch attempt to convince the leaders of the CAF that his country is capable of organising the 2019 Africa Cup Nations Cup.

The reports have it that Eto’o visited Kinshasa in the DR Congo last weekend to meet CAF president Ahmad, vice president Constant Omari, and all the CAF Executive Board to state the case for Cameroon’s hosting credentials.

CAF might hinge the withdrawal of the hosting rights of the now expanded competition on lack of facilities. If Cameroon’s candidacy is ruled out, a new bid process would probably be launched with Algeria, Morocco and Cote d’Ivoire as potential interested parties.
