President Akufo-Addo will do the ceremonial tee off in the maiden edition of the Head of State International Golf tournament.

The One day event which will take place at the Achimota Golf Course in Accra on October 6, will see over 90 amateur and professional Golfers compete for honours.

This is a collaboration between the Achimota Golf Club, the Ghana Golf Association and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Speaking at the launch, president of the Ghana Golf Association Mike Aggrey said President Nana Akufo-Addo is expected to do the Tee-off and the closing ceremony.

“This is a stroke play and a total of 90 golfers who have been carefully selected from across the country and the sub-region will take part,” said Mr. Aggrey, adding “We are expecting golfers from Nigeria, Benin, Togo and South Africa to add some international feel to the tournament.

“Finding a date for the event was the biggest challenge because of the President’s busy schedule but he has assured us that he will be available on October 6 to do the tee-off and the closing ceremony,” Mr. Aggrey added.

He also mentioned that the President has tasked the organizers to ensure major business deals that will benefit the country are brokered at the end of the competition.

“We have been tasked to broker business deals to the tune of $50 million and we are confident that the setting and atmosphere that will be created on the day would ensure that many business deals are firmed up by the time the event comes to a close,” he added.

The Head of State Open Championship is a competition being organized as part of the Ghana at 60 celebration.
