Petroleum Consumers are demanding that the Ghana Standards Authority name all 57 oil marketing companies it has sanctioned for short-changing their customers.

The companies, all of them in the Greater Accra Region have been penalised for engaging in various infractions such as using non-approved GSA seals and breaking GSA seals meant to stop cheating at the pumps.

Some consumers Starr News spoke to  expressed worry about the situation adding that the authority must list the names of these companies in order for them to be cautious or avoid their services entirely.

“We are worried, we want the names of those companies who are cheating us so that we avoid them or if we go there we are careful”.

The head of public affairs of the Ghana Standards Authority, Dr. Kofi Amponsah Bediako said the law does not permit the Authority to name those involved.

“We have to make sure we work in the confines of the law, the law doesn’t allow us to name and shame, if the law is amended we can name those OMCs. So we advise consumers to be cautious anytime they buy fuel so they are not cheated.”
