Wayne Rooney has reportedly told friends he fears his marriage is over after he was charged with drink-driving.

His pregnant wife Coleen spent the weekend with her parents after the Everton striker, 31, was stopped by police while returning from an evening out.

He was stopped in a black Volkswagen Beetle in Wilmslow, Cheshire at 2am on Friday, police said.

The former England captain was in the car with 29-year-old single mother Laura Simpson when he was pulled over by officers after reportedly spending the evening at a bar four miles from his mansion.

His wife, 31, who was on holiday in Majorca at the time with the couple’s three sons, flew home to confront her husband before taking refuge at her parents’ home for the rest of the weekend.

A source was quoted by The Sun as saying: “She’s been spending time with her parents deciding what to do — but at this stage she feels it’s over.

“Things could change in the coming days but as things stand she’s had enough and it’s finished.”

Rooney has also told friends he fears his nine-year marriage is over, according to the newspaper.

One friend was quoted as saying: “He’s had to apologise to Coleen for lots of things in the past — but this is looking like the toughest one yet. She is absolutely raging.”

Rooney, who has just announced his retirement from international football, is due to appear at Stockport Magistrates’ Court on September 18.
