Motown legend Stevie Wonder has showed his support for under-fire American Football players by ‘taking a knee’ at a gig on Saturday night.

Last week President Donald Trump declared that players who kneel down during the traditional pre-match playing of the US national anthem to protest police brutality should be sacked by their clubs.

Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick was the first player to do so, now the Superstition singer has gone one better by getting down on both knees, with the help of son Kwame, at the Global Citizen festival in Central Park, New York.

Stevie told the crowd: “Tonight, I’m taking a knee for America.

“But not just one knee, I’m taking both knees. Both knees in prayer for our planet, our future, our leaders of the world and our globe.”

The President’s incendiary comments from over the weekend contained some potentially offensive language so please be warned before reading on.

To a crowd of cheering supporters on Friday, Mr Trump asked: “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now…he is fired’?”
