The race for the General Secretary position of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is heating up as it emerges that incumbent Johnson Asiedu Nketiah may not contest again.

Among the many names that are rumoured to be warming up are Kofi Adams, Koku Anyidoho, George Lawson and immediate past Executive Secretary of the Ghana Free Zones Board, Kojo Twum Boafo.

According to party insiders, Mr. Adams despite announcing earlier that he was not interested in contesting a position is being ‘forced’ to reconsider his decision as the party prepares to put a strong foot forward for the next election.

Mr. Boafo’s entry into the race is expected to change the dynamics as he will be the only person who is not an incumbent national officer vying for the top job.

The NDC since losing the election in 2016 has been going through tough times, but will be holding its congress mid-year 2018 to elect new national officers ahead of election 2020.
